Compliance
College Athletics is fun and exciting. Here at The University of The Incarnate Word, the atmosphere is exciting, as the University has 19 stellar sports programs with the addition of football in the fall of 2008. Student-athletes, coaches, administrators, alumni, fans and boosters all play a role in the success of Incarnate Word athletics. There are many ways in which to “win” in college athletics.
Winning is more than outscoring the opponent. Winning also means “Playing By the Rules”. That includes rules of eligibility, academic standards and NCAA regulations involving amateurism, benefits, financial aid and recruiting.
This site is intended to provide a basic understanding of NCAA rules and regulations for everyone involved in athletics at UIW. While not all inclusive, this information is meant to provide guidance in many of the situations you may encounter and should help you avoid inadvertently violating fundamental NCAA policies.
As you peruse this information please keep in mind that NCAA rules and regulations have not been imposed by some unknown entity. They have, for the most part, been developed by, presented to and voted on by the individual members of the Association. They allow for a “level playing field” among the diverse institutions which comprise the NCAA across the country.
Adherence to these rules is mandatory if we are to maintain the integrity of fair play and competition.
GO CARDINALS!
