The dream is a reality. UIW announced its plans for a Division II scholarship football program in February of 2007, and shortly thereafter construction began on the Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium. Work ran through August of 2008 and on September 1 the stadium opened for action by the Cardinals who will play their first game in 2009.

GOOD ON BOTH SIDES IN INTRASQUAD Incarnate Word’s football Cardinals got in their second full-blown intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday and the some 300 fans gathered at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium got their money’s worth, on both sides of the ball.
