Women Finish Fourth at Conference Tourney -- posted Tuesday, April 15 2008

DALLAS - The 72-par course proved to be a tough one for the Heartland Conference women as the lowest score through the entire field was a 79. For the Incarnate Word women’s golf team, the lowest score was an 85 as the Cardinals finished the conference tournament in fourth place.

The Cardinals once again tallied a Round 2 score of 358 – identical to their Round 1 score – for a final tally of 716 and the fourth place finish. Championship team St. Edward’s finished with a 651 and Dallas Baptist finished in second place at 675. In third place, St. Mary’s finished at 709.

Tanya Edge tied for fifth as she shot a Round 2 score of 86. Sasha Kiger took sole possession of 11th place after she shot UIW’s best of 85. Cat Schriedel took an 88 for the second straight round and Megan Quirie and Christina Jennings finished in places 25 and 26 as Quirie shot a 99 and Jennings shot a 101 on the day.

Cardinals in Fourth After Round 1 of Conference Tourney -- posted Monday, April 14 2008

DALLAS - The Incarnate Word women’s golf team sits in fourth place after Day 1 of the Heartland Conference Championship with Tanya Edge leading the Cardinals tied for fifth with a Round 1 score of 80.

Tied for 12th place is Sasha Kiger who shot an 86 on the 72-par course. Cat Schriedel is tied for 14th with an 88 while Megan Quirie came in tied for 24th with a 104. Christina Jennings is in 26th place after shooting a 107.

St. Edward’s is leading with a final Round 1 tally of 321. Dallas Baptist is in second place at 328 and St. Mary’s is right above the Cardinals at 346. UIW sits in fourth place with a score of 358.

UIW will conclude the tournament Tuesday morning.

First Place Finish for UIW at TLU Invite -- posted Tuesday, March 18 2008


Cat Schriedel

Cat Schriedel, Sasha Kiger and Tanya Edge each nabbed a top-five finish to lead Incarnate Word to a first place finish at the Texas Lutheran ConCan Invitational in Uvalde, Texas.

Schriedel finished in third place with a score of 174. She shot a 92 Monday and finished 10 strokes better at 82 on Tuesday. Kiger came in fourth at 1777. She had a round 1 score of 87 and finished three strokes higher in round 2 at 90. Edge came in fifth, finishing with a 179 over the two rounds. She shot an 84 Monday and a 95 on Tuesday.

Megan Quirie shot a 193 over the two days and finished 11th while Christina Jennings shot a 210 for 14th place.

UIW's total score of 723 was 12 strokes better than second place finisher, Texas Lutheran. Heartland opponent, Texas A&M International finished in third with a total score of 951.

Cardinals Struggle in Austin -- posted Tuesday, March 4 2008

The University of the Incarnate Word women’s golf team struggled at the St. Edward’s invitational Monday and Tuesday, finishing in 17th place. As a team, the Cardinals tallied a 777 over the two day meet.

On the first day, UIW totaled 393 strokes and improved to 384 in round two. Tanya Edge recorded the best finish for the Cardinals after the first round, shooting a 92. In the second round, Sasha Kiger finished with a team-best 90 strokes. Edge and Kiger were the top two finishers for UIW, tallying a 186 and 187, respectively.

The Cardinals will return to the course March 17-18 at the Texas Lutheran Invitational taking place at the Con Can Country Club in Uvalde.

Women's Golf Finishes 11th at Rattler Roundup -- posted Tuesday, February 26 2008


The Incarnate Word women’s golf team finished in 11th place with a total of 748 in the Lady Rattler Roundup that took place over Monday and Tuesday at the Dominion Country Club in San Antonio.

The Cardinals’ Cat Schriedel was the top finisher for UIW with a score of 173. After shooting a 78 on Day 1, tying for third place, Schriedel suffered on the course on Day 2, finishing with 95 strokes to drop to 27th.

Tanya Edge came in 44th with a tally of 185, with 88 strokes in round one and 97 in round two. Sasha Kiger, who started off the tournament with a 99 on Monday, shot the lowest for the Cardinals Tuesday with a 93. Megan Quirie turned in a 96 in the first round and a 102 in the second while Christina Jennings shot a 99 and followed up with a 108.

The women’s team will return to the course Monday and Tuesday at the St. Edward’s Invitational.

Women's Golf Finishes 16th -- posted Monday, February 18 2008

The Incarnate Word women’s golf team finished in 16th place at the Tarleton State Coca-Cola Classic. The tournament, originally scheduled for two rounds, was shortened to just one because of thunderstorms in the Stephenville area.

UIW shot a 377 as a team led by Tanya Edge’s 90. She tied for 47th. Teammates Sasha Kiger and Cat Schriedel each shot a 93.

The Cardinals will next participate at the St. Mary’s Invitational Feb. 26-27. The tournament will take place at the Dominion Country Club.

Women's Golf Finishes Fifth in Laredo -- posted Tuesday, February 5 2008

The Incarnate Word Cardinals women’s golf team placed two in the top 20 as it finished in fifth place at the Texas A&M International Dustdevil Invitational. Catherine Schriedel and Tanya Edge finished in 11th and 12th place, respectively.

In the two-round tournament, Schriedel opened play shooting an 88. In the second round, the freshman finished three strokes better, firing an 85 and an 11th place showing.

Edge finished right behind Schriedel in the final standings as she shot an 86 and an 88 in rounds one and two, respectively.

As a team, the Cardinals finished in fifth place.

UIW returns to the course Feb. 18-19 at the Tarleton State Invitational in Stephenville, Texas.
