Interviewing Tactics to Make You Stand Out From the Crowd
- Take your time when you enter.
- Ask the first question.
- Do not be afraid to be yourself.
- Go easy on the "charm."
- Show candor - (i.e. point to strengths that offset those weaknesses.)
- Don't over - answer.
- Make your case in writing - Even though you can assume that your interviewer has seen your resume, there's nothing stopping you after youve done some research on the job and the company - from preparing a short list that spells out the specific skills and attributes that you bring to this particular opportunity. Cancellation and No-Show Policy for On-Campus Interviews
The effects of missing an interview:
- Missed appointments inconvenience employers who have scheduled their time around your interview.
- Missed appointments reflect poorly on other UIW students, faculty and staff who are your peers, colleagues and teachers for life.
- Missed appointments damage our relationship with employers who may reconsider whether or not to participate in on-campus interviews in the future. Employers talk to each other too.
- Because missed appointments disrupt this working relationship, other students now, and in the future, may have their career goals affected by your actions.
Either way, your actions affect not only you, but also your fellow students and alumni. It is your decision whether you make a positive or negative impression. Please make every effort to attend your interview. Cancellations are strongly discouraged, and no-shows are unacceptable.
- You may reschedule or cancel interview appointments via the online system, Career Circuit, two days prior to your interview. For example, Monday interviews must be cancelled by the Wednesday before at 5:00 pm and Tuesday interviews by 5:00 pm the Thursday before at 5:00 pm. Typically, the schedule “freezes” 48 hours before the interview so that we have an opportunity to send the final schedule to the recruiter in preparation of his/her arrival on campus.
- Students who need to cancel within 48 hours of the interview must call Career Services at (210) 829-3931. Do not contact us via e-mail to cancel your interview!
- Any student who does not give at least 48 hours notice when canceling an interview will be considered a “no show.”
- Students failing to appear for a scheduled interview will be considered a “no show.” A “no show” could result in the loss of interview privileges for the remainder of the academic year.
- A student whose privileges have been revoked must meet with the Director of Career Services to have his/her privileges reinstated. An apology letter to the recruiter, with a copy submitted to Career Services will be required.
