Yes, the majority of clubs charge dues to join and participate. Most clubs do receive limited funding from the university, but this funding does not cover all of the expenses incurred. Dues payments help defray the cost of travel, registration, tournaments and other expenses. Dues range from $50 per semester to $1,000 per academic year depending on sport and schedules.
There are two ways a student may join a club.
For incoming students, you can fill out a recruitment form on the club's website. When you click submit, the information is sent to the club, who will follow up with you via email or phone to answer your questions and discuss the club with you.
For new and returning students, UIW holds an "Information meeting" each fall and spring. This is a day near the beginning of each semester in which all clubs are present to help any questions new students may have about the team and schedules. These days are an opportunity to join a club, speak with members of the various clubs, and learn more about each club.
This is the number one question we get asked at first-year student orientation. Simply, intramural activities are short-term competitions among UIW students, faculty, and staff. Club sports are for students who want to commit to a longer season and a highly competitive level. Sport clubs practices, meetings, competitions and fundraisers are led by graduate assistant coaches and athletes. Sport clubs practice multiple times per week and travel to compete against other schools' club sports teams. Intramurals consist of UIW students, faculty and staff that compete against each other in organized leagues and tournaments within the UIW community on a more recreational level.
Schedule a meeting with the Club Sports supervisors to discuss your interest. Contact the office of Club Sports at email@example.com or at 210-805-5873.
