ContinUIW
College students often spend their summers working, improving their job prospects with internships, or whiling away the hours at the pool or beach.
UIW students now have another option: ContinUIW, a summer program allowing qualifying students the opportunity to continue earning credit toward their degrees at a reduced tuition rate.
The guidelines are simple: undergraduate main campus students who have been enrolled for at least 12 hours during each of the prior spring and fall semesters and who have maintained cumulative GPAs of 2.5 during those semesters qualify for grants ranging from $1,000 to $2,500, total, depending on the number of credit hours taken during the subsequent summer sessions.
“The program is intended to help students remain engaged in the classroom during a time when they typically disengage. When successful such engagement assists with student retention,” said Dr. Kevin Vichcales, Dean of Graduate Studies and Research.
Students who enroll for three to five hours receive a tuition grant of $1,000; students enrolling for six to eight hours receive a grant of $1,500; and students enrolling for nine or more hours receive $2,000 in tuition assistance.
In addition, students living in university housing during the summer and enrolling for six or more summer credit hours receive an additional grant of $500, for a maximum award of $2,500.
No application is necessary to receive the tuition grants; rather, students who are eligible need only register for the classes. The Office of Financial Assistance automatically determines a student’s eligibility, and applies the grants to their account. Please note that the program is not available to graduate, ADCaP, online, consortium, or other scholarship/special programs.
“Our hope is that the program will help students get ahead in their degree requirements, and ultimately graduate sooner,” added Vichcales.
