Frequently asked Questions

Here's a general list of questions that are most asked:

  1. What if there is an emergency and I need to speak to someone?

If you are having a crisis situation, please call our office at (210) 832-5656 during business hours or come to the office. If you or anyone you know is injured or in imminent danger, please call campus police or 911 for emergency medical assistance. Additional resources are list on the “Resources” tab.

  1. Do I need to set up an appointment?

Yes.  Setting up an appointment is easy. You can call (210) 832-5656 or you can stop by our office in Administration building 438 and speak to the front desk admin.

  1. What if I need to cancel my appointment?

We ask that you contact us at least 24 hours in advance to cancel so we can open your spot for another client who may need a counseling session.

  1. What time do you open and close?

Monday through Thursday we open at 8am and close at 6pm. On Fridays we open at 8am and close at 5pm.

  1. Are you available on the weekends?

We are currently not available on weekends, but we are happy to refer you to a counselor who is.  We also invite you to contact any of the numbers of the resources on our webpage for assistance on the weekends.

  1. Do you all do reminder calls?

We will provide appointment cards and will do reminder calls as much as possible. However, we suggest that you take an appointment card and record your appointment or set a reminder on your phone so that you don’t forget.

  1. Who is eligible for counseling services?

Students who are enrolled at the University of the Incarnate Word or one of its affiliate high schools and who are attending classes are eligible for counseling services. Faculty and staff are eligible for consultation services and referral to mental health resources. If you are not sure about your eligibility, feel free to contact our office at (210) 832-5656.
