Fall 2011: How Learning Works: 7 Research-Based Principles for Smart Teaching
How Learning Works summarizes important findings in cognitive psychology and applies them to college teaching in many disciplines. Authors Susan Ambrose, Michael Bridges, Michele DiPietro, Marsha Lovett, and Marie Norman have kept their volume practical and accessible to non-specialists. Pat Lonchar (CHASS) and Shishu Zhang (HEB School of Business) will moderate the book club, which is open to all faculty members. Participants will set the exact meeting times, probably four Fridays, beginning in October for breakfast or lunch. Participants will get a copy of the book and refreshments. Interested but not positive you can attend? Sign up at the CTL's online reservation site to be included in the planning emails.
To propose a future book club
Contact Susan Hall at hall@uiwtx.edu. Include the title, a link to a review or other information about the book, and a few sentences about why this book would interest a group of UIW faculty.
