Producing the Show
Every spring semester, students in the Fashion Show Production class come to understand the hard work and intensity required to produce an industry standard, professional runway show. At the beginning of the class, students form committee teams to tackle every aspect of the fashion show.
The designer committee coordinates with the designers to secure their collection sketches, assist with hair, make-up, music selections and a photo shoot. The model committee reviews agency model books, organizes fittings and develops a working model lineup for the show.
The dresser committee organizes the hostesses, hosts and dressers to assist the models back stage as well as designing and ordering the t-shirts for the show. The stage and technical team arrange for delivery of cosmetic/gift bags from the show’s supporters, the table centerpieces and coordination with the sound, lighting, photography and execution of the show.
The advertising committee solicits advertisements for the program and finalizes the program design and the show’s script. Finally, the silent auction committee follows up with potential donors at the beginning of the semester, obtains auction items from the donors, and assists with silent auction layout on the day of the show.
All committees work to make judging and fitting nights successful. The entire class transports and sets up all elements for the fashion show prior to the event and insures that all equipment is returned. Of course, no committees would be successful without the leadership of several coordinators, merchandising students who have been through a fashion show previously, and who provide guidance and direction to the class.
