Teacher Education Certification Admission

All students who plan to follow a program leading to initial certification must formally apply and be admitted to the Teacher Education program.  Applications for admission into Teacher Education are accepted during announced application periods each semester.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 60 semester hours of coursework completed
  • Cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or greater
  • Grade of “C” or greater in every course taken for IDS majors (in major for secondary/all-level candidates)
  • 230 or higher on all three sections of the THEA (Reading, Writing, Mathematics)
  • 30% or higher on the Nelson Denny Reading Test
  • EDUC 2305: Foundation of Education (completed or in progress)
  • Two written faculty recommendations
  • Updated transcripts (from each college or university attended)
  • Writing sample
  • Group interview
