In 2007 an interdepartmental committee of eight developed a clear vision for an honors program at the UIW main campus. The plan encompassed all majors and allowed talented students to develop together through a core-based curriculum based on the theme, “What does it mean to be human?”
With Faculty Forum approval of the proposal in early 2008, curriculum development and student recruiting got underway, and a new director came on board to administer the program. The pieces then fell quickly in place for a fall 2008 start-up. To the right are some members of the first Honors student cohort, those we call "the intrepid" for being brave enough to help foster the new program.
The program has evolved significantly since then, yet the basic philosophy has not changed: to support motivated students with curricular and co-curricular activities to enhance their self-development. To celebrate our journey together over the last ten years, we have planned a variety of events to showcase our alumni and our honors community. Join us!
