The University of the Incarnate Word offers a retirement plan available to all regular full-time employees.  To participate in the Teachers Insurance Annuity Association (TIAA), eligible employees must complete the Salary Reduction Agreement Form found in the MyWord Portal or contact the Human Resources Office.

Employees may begin participating after one year of eligible service.  Enrollment in the program requires employees to contribute a minimum of 3% of their gross monthly salary and UIW will contribute an additional 7% of the gross monthly salary.  UIW matching contributions are subject to change.  Participation in the plan is voluntary for the first 10 years of employment.  After 10 years, all eligible employees are required to participate in the Plan.

TIAA also offers a tax-deferred or Supplemental Retirement Annuity (SRA) and an after-tax Roth 403(b).  Participation in these funds does not include an employer match.

The University will begin to make contributions for you to the Emeriti Retirement Health Savings account when you reach age 40 with one year of service. The University will cease making its contributions on the earliest of the following: the date the University has made 25 years of contributions to your account, the date you cease employment at the University, or at your death.

You can begin to make voluntary contributions to the Plan on a flat dollar basis each payroll period if you are age 21 or older with one year of service. The amount will be determined by you.

You will be eligible for the Emeriti Health Insurance Plan Options and the Emeriti Reimbursement Benefit if you satisfy the criteria for Retirement Eligibility under the Plan. You have met these criteria if you have attained age 55 while employed by UIW with at least 10 years of continuous service, or age 65 with five years of service for late hires. You also satisfy Retirement Eligibility if you become permanently disabled during active service and receive a disability determination letter from Social Security.
