Dr. Carmita Coleman joins the faculty as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice.

Dr. Coleman holds a bachelors degree in chemistry from the University of New Orleans and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree with honors from Xavier University. Dr. Coleman completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Hermann Hospital, Houston, Texas.

In 1999, Dr. Coleman joined the faculty at the Hampton University School of Pharmacy where she  developed and taught a variety of courses, including the integrated components of Drug and Disease management.  Dr. Coleman led the development of the Rho Chi chapter at Hampton University, and contributed significantly to student involvement in VPhA, VSHP, NPhA, and other organizations.  Dr. Coleman’s level of personal activity with the professional organizations led to her election to President – elect of the Virginia Society of Health System Pharmacists for 2004.   She is the secretary for NPhA.

Dr. Coleman has been involved in research since her days as a resident.  She recently received a grant from the Merck Foundation to conduct research in Video Telepharmacy.  Her grant was one of the 8, nationwide, selected for funding. Dr. Coleman has numerous presentations to her credit and a noteworthy collection of publications.

 Most recently, Dr. Coleman was Assistant Professor and Director of Continuing Education at Hampton University School of Pharmacy in Hampton, Virginia.

Dr. Coleman holds membership in a many of professional organizations including the American Pharmaceutical Association, American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists, Kappa Epsilon Pharmacy Fraternity for women, Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society, and Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society.
