What will the program cost?

Tuition for the 2006-2007 academic year has been set at $25,500.   Cost of books and other supplies vary but are likely to be about $1000 / year.

May I enroll on a part – time basis or on-line?

No, this is a classroom based program designed for full time study.  Applications for part-time are not considered.

How many credit hours is necessary for admission into the professional program?

 An applicant must have completed at least 64 semester hours of college credit to enter at the professional level.  All pre-requisite work must be complete prior to entry.  To be eligible for graduate/professional level financial aid, the applicant must have completed at least 71 semester hours of college credit.

When can I apply for the School of Pharmacy?

UIW School of Pharmacy will accept applications for admission to the Fall 2007 class starting in September 2006.

What is needed for application to the Pharm. D. program?

ALL APPLICATION MATERIALS MUST BE SENT TOGETHER IN ONE PACKET.   You will need the following items for a completed application to be considered:

When do I need to obtain the required pharmacy observational experience?

A pharmacist-signed affidavit of completed 80 hours of pharmacy observational experience is required to be turned into the School of Pharmacy Office by August 1 of the entry year.  Observational experience is in a licensed pharmacy in the United States or Canada under the direct supervision of a licensed / registered pharmacist. Documentation of hours must be maintained and reported on the official form available from the school. If the student is a registered / certified  pharmacy technician with current or recent employment in a pharmacy, the hours worked as an employee will apply.  Although the documentation of pharmacy observational experience is not required as part of the application packet, it is encouraged. All documentation must be kept on the following forms:

What does the admission committee consider during application reviews?

The admission committee takes a number of factors into consideration during the review process.  These factors include cumulative GPA, science GPA, PCAT score, number of credit hours completed, quality of academic institution, pharmacy experience, interview, leadership, service, letters of recommendation from faculty and health profession employers, knowledge of the profession and technology skills.

How soon after applying will I know of a decision?

Your file must be complete in order for the admission committee to review it.  Due to the high volume of applications, students should expect a decision in April of the application year.

What are the admission requirements?

Is there credit for previous study or military / job experience?

Not at the professional level.  All students must have completed pre-pharmacy requirements comparable to UIW’s pre-pharmacy program or have a recent degree that meets the requirements.

If I have completed my pre-requisite work in another country, can I still be accepted into the program?

Applicants attending college in another country must have their courses evaluated by an evaluation service such as WES (http://www.wes.org/).  This does not guarantee acceptance.

How many students will be in the first class?

The Fall 2006 class began with 80 students.

Where is the school located?

Currently, the pharmacy office is in the Convocation Center on the UIW campus. Pharmacy classes are being conducted at the UIW NW Campus. The permanent home of the Pharmacy School will be constructed within 12 months.

What is the accreditation status of the program?

As it is with all new programs, the Feik School of Pharmacy is on the appropriate accreditation track with the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.  Full accreditation is expected in 2010.

If I am accepted into the Pre-Pharmacy program, am I automatically accepted into the Professional program?

No.  There are no guarantees for entrance into the Feik School of Pharmacy.  All applicants will be judged on the merits of their individual portfolios, in regards to the Pharm. D. requirements.  Exceptionally qualified candidates from our pr-pharmacy curriculum will find that they do have an increased chance of being accepted.

Where will I best be able to practice when I graduate from the UIW pharmacy program?

Our program is designed to provide future graduates with the abilities to work in multiple pharmacy settings.

Will there be a job for me after graduation?

According to today’s projections, nationwide, there should be 2-3 jobs for each pharmacy graduate 2010.

What salary can I expect after graduation?

Current salaries differ based on the job and location in which one chooses to work.  In general, starting salaries for pharmacists range from $70,000 to 95,000 / year.  In some locales, bilingual pharmacists earn more.

How diverse are the career options?

Pharmacists can work in a large variety of venues, including academia, industry, community pharmacy, institutional pharmacy, nuclear pharmacy, benefits management, NIH/CDC, pharmaceutical sales and service, uniformed sevices, research, etc.
