Pre-Pharmacy FAQ

What are admission requirements?

For the pre-Pharmacy program, students must meet the general requirements for enrollment at UIW. For more information, please click on Admissions. For admission into the Doctor of Pharmacy program, please click on Pharm. D. information.

Is there a deadline to apply?

For the pre-Pharmacy program, you can apply each year for the Fall semester. However, it is recommended that you apply early, so that you can complete necessary testing and be ready to start with your cohort. Starting late may mean that you need to take preparatory courses which would delay your inclusion in the cohort. Spring applications will not be accepted into the pre-Pharmacy program.  Application to the professional program in the School of Pharmacy will begin in August and end in December each year.

How do I apply to the pre-pharmacy program?

  • First, fill out application for enrollment found online at www.uiw.edu or at the Admissions Office

Can you explain the curriculum?

In order to apply and be accepted to the Pharm.D. program, all students will be expected to have completed the pre-pharmacy curriculum. This two-year group of courses is heavy in the sciences; however they have good grounding in other essential areas. If you already possess a bachelor's degree, you will not be asked to complete the general core requirements; however you must have completed the science courses in the prescribed curriculum.

How many of my credits can transfer into the UIW pre-pharmacy curriculum?

Students may transfer in an unlimited number of courses in the pre-pharmacy curriculum, as long as they are equivalent. Please talk with your advisor to make sure that your coursework will transfer to meet the requirement.

If I have a bachelor's degree, do I need to take the pre-pharmacy curriculum?

You do not need to take the Core Curriculum courses, however you must be certain that you have completed all of the science and math coursework. Science (Chemistry and Biology) and Math (Calculus and Statistics) courses must be current within 5 years.

If I complete the pre-pharmacy curriculum, am I guaranteed admission to the School of Pharmacy?

There are no guarantees for entrance into the Feik School of Pharmacy. All applicants will be judged on the merits of their individual portfolios, in regards to the Pharm.D. requirements. Exceptionally qualified candidates from our pre-pharmacy curriculum will find that they do have an increased chance of being accepted.

If I don't get admitted, what then?

The pre-pharmacy curriculum was developed so that students would have a variety of choices as they contemplate joining the Feik School of Pharmacy. Since this is a highly selective admissions process, some students may find that they will enhance their portfolio by completing a four year degree. Others may simply find that they enjoy the challenges of a program of study other than pharmacy. For these people, the two-year pre-pharmacy coursework, based on the first two years of a chemistry degree, is a natural stepping stone into a number of majors that exist at UIW. These include chemistry, biology, math and many other majors that meet your particular interests.

Since I am a certified pharmacy technician, will I be given increased consideration for the PharmD program?

As entrance to the Feik School of Pharmacy will be an extremely competitive process, anything that you can do to enhance your portfolio will be helpful. Internships, working in the field, additional science courses, and a high science GPA will all be seen as positive additions to your portfolio.
