1310 Introduction to Athletic Training
The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with the fundamentals of Athletic Training. This course is geared towards the beginning athletic training student, the coach, and anyone interested in learning about the care of athletes and athletic injuries (Spring 2002)
2201 Tests and Measurement
Principles of measurement, statistical concepts, and standardized tests of performance-related and health-related fitness (Fall 2002).
2310 Advanced Athletic Training
This course will meet the needs of the students by offering them an in-depth training in the field of special athletic training considerations. This course will teach the students an in depth study of special athletic training considerations, a variety of injuries that may occur and treatment of the injuries as well (Prerequisite PEHP 1310) (Fall 2002).
2320 Evaluation of Athletic Injuries
This course will meet the needs of the students with the evaluation techniques and skills necessary in the recognition of Athletic Injuries and an understanding of the mechanism of various athletic injuries (Prerequisite PEHP 2310) (Spring 2003).
3105 Principles of Health
A study of health principles and activities for children that enhance positive lifestyle (Spring 2002 & Fall 2003)
3110 Middle School Physical Education
A view of middle school physical education students and movement programs to enhance motor performance and health-related performance (as needed).
3301 Motor and Fitness Development for Children
Motor development, physical fitness, rhythmic activities, tumbling skills, and perceptual awareness skills and their application to child development (Prerequisite: All Level Physical Education Majors Only) (Fall 2001 & Spring 2003).
3302 Motor and Fitness Development for Pre-Adolescents
Further sequential development of motor skills, physical fitness, rhythmic activities, and tumbling skills (Prerequisite: All Level Physical Education Majors Only) (Fall 2001 & Spring 2003).
3305 Motor Development, Fitness, and Health
An overview of the impact of motor and physical fitness development upon children from birth to pre-adolescence. Activities to enhance motor development and provide a healthy lifestyle (every Summer I, Spring 2002 & Fall 2003).
3310 Principles of Personal and Community Health
The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with current personal and community health practices. Attention will be given to the principles of individual and group wellness in our contemporary society (Prerequisite PEHP 2310) (Fall 2003).
3320 Therapeutic Modalities
This course is designed to provide the students with the knowledge and skills needed to perform more advanced athletic tapings for athletic injury and/or prevention. It is also designed to provide the student with knowledge of clinical application of therapeutic modalities including patient preparation, set-up, determination of dosage, indications and contra-indications, and operational procedures, as well as the current techniques used in sports medicine today (Prerequisite PEHP 2310) (Fall 2004).
3330 Rehabilitation
This course is designed to provide the students with the ability to design a comprehensive rehabilitation program to best meet the needs of the injured athlete. This course will also develop basic attitudes for the athletic trainer and other allied health professionals with the respect of the athlete and environment (Prerequisites PEHP 2310 and PEHP 2320) (Spring 2003).
3340 Organization and Administration
This course is designed to provide the students with a basic background in organization and administration. The student will be able to plan, coordinate and supervise all administrative components of licensing and certification of athletic trainers in Texas and the United States (Prerequisite PEHP 2310 and PEHP 2320) (Spring 2004).
3350 Theory of Movement Forms: Analysis and Construction
The interrelationship of kinematics and kinetics of motion. Physiological and psychological development of the child in relation to learning neuromuscular activities (Spring 2002 & Fall 2003).
3371 Care and Prevention of Injuries
Basic first aid theory and skills. Techniques for the care and prevention of athletic injuries, including CPR (Fall 2001 & Spring 2003).
3410 Motor and Fitness Development for Adolescents
Further sequential development of motor skills and physical fitness. Knowledge and skill for developing leisure and lifetime sports activities. Practical application of coaching theories including coaching techniques and officiating (Fall 2002).
4301 Principles of Human Movement
The humanistic foundations of movement with emphasis on history and philosophy. A study of the impact of motor learning, exercise physiology and biomechanics upon human physical performance (Prerequisite PEHP 3301 or PEHP 3302 or PEHP 3410) (Spring 2002 & Fall 2003).
4310 Practicum: Muscle Testing
This course is designed to provide the students with the vocabulary and writing skills necessary to document and comprehend a complete muscular evaluation. Furthermore, the student will be able to demonstrate actual muscle testing techniques including origin, insertion and action of specific muscles (Prerequisites PEHP 3320, PEHP 3330, and PEHP 3340) (Fall 2004).
4333 Fundamentals of Human Performance
The theoretical study and practical application of exercise through an understanding of the metabolic and energetic process. To include topics which impact performance such as body composition, nutrition, training, environment, aging, disease, and substance abuse (Fall 2001 & Spring 2003).
4345 Psychomotor Development: Educational Implications
Normal psychomotor development and study of the range of planned motor development and physical conditioning activities for young children and persons exhibiting delays in motor abilities (Fall 2002).
4388 Internship
This course will introduce the student to various administrative tasks and skills the athletic trainer is faced with on a daily basis. The student will meet professionals in the sports medicine field under various situations, discuss various athletic training philosophies, and begin to gain experiences that allow them to exhibit entry-level behaviors and to develop consistent characteristics (Prerequisites PEHP 3320, PEHP 3330, and PEHP 3340) (Fall 2004).
4390 Capstone (Mock Testing)
This course will provide the students with an additional method of preparing for the NATABOC Exam. The course material will be composed of material that has previously been covered in the previous athletic training courses. A series of work sheets and research topics will be provided as a cumulative review of previous classes. At the conclusion of the class, an exam structured just like the NATABOC exam will be given (Prerequisites PEHP 4310 & PEHP 4388) (Spring 2005).
