Heritage Week 2007
The University of the Incarnate Word will celebrate Heritage Day on Monday, Oct. 15. The day will be marked by various activities around the campus.
The annual celebration honors the history and heritage of the University and its founders the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word (CCVI). This year’s theme is “Honoring the Past, Building the Future.”
Heritage Day celebrations will begin at approximately 8:10 a.m. with an opening ceremony held at the CCVI cemetery located adjacent to the UIW campus. The ceremony will consist of a prayer service at the grave site of the CCVI co-founders Sisters Madeleine and Pierre.
After the prayer service, participants will be invited to attend a cookout in the Majorie Jordan Carillon Plaza from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. provided by Sodexho food services or a noon Mass that will take place at the UIW Grotto.
At 3 p.m. in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word, University employees will be honored for their years of service in an employee recognition ceremony. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
This is a very special day for the University, its faculty, staff and students. The entire San Antonio community is invited to celebrate with us as we celebrate Heritage Day, a day that commemorates the blessing of the cornerstone of the CCVI Motherhouse in 1899.
