The Division of Institutional Advancement at Incarnate Word
coordinates and manages all fund-raising activities to provide support
for University and High School operations, capital projects, special programs,
and the endowment. In this endeavor, the Vice President for Institutional
Advancement is assisted by the Alumni Relations and Planned Giving Office,
the Development Office, and the Foundation, Corporate and Government Relations
Office.
Professional staff in the Division of Institutional Advancement work closely
with the University Development Board, a voluntary group of 50 business
and community leaders who assist UIW with fund-raising programs and special
events.
Institutional Advancement Offices provide direction for all campus-sponsored
and fund-raising projects. Student organizations are strongly encouraged
to contact the Vice President of Institutional Advancement for advice and

Membership is automatically granted to all Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral graduates of UIW, the UIW Adult Degree Completion Program (ADCaP) and the UIW Universe Online program. Graduates of China Incarnate Word and Centro Universitario Incarnate Word are also considered part of the UIW Alumni Association.
Events such as Homecoming, Reunions, and various networking events are hosted by the Alumni Relations staff. The Department of Alumni Relations is always looking into new ways to involve alumni with the University of the Incarnate Word. The Development Office is responsible for conducting fund-raising campaigns
and special events to support the Annual Fund for University of the Incarnate
Word.
Monies raised through the Annual Fund help to make up the difference
between student tuition (which covers approximately 68%) and the total
cost of education at Incarnate Word. The Annual Fund provides monetary
support for student scholarships, academic divisions, library and computer
resources, academic and student services, and campus ministry and counseling
programs. The Associates Campaign (for gifts of $1,000 or more) is a
major program of the Annual Fund.
Another annual event, the Swing-In Golf Tournament and Auction Dinner,
also supports scholarships as well as athletic programs and equipment.
The Development Office also coordinates the Annual Employee Campaign
at Incarnate Word and pursues funding for endowed student scholarships
and endowed professorial chairs.

This office is responsible for cultivating donor relationships with
corporations -- local, national and multinational -- as well as philanthropic
foundations and the federal government. It continually conducts research
to determine what opportunities for funding are available from sources,
and submits proposals and applications accordingly. The office is not
only reactive, assisting faculty, staff and administrators in developing
and preparing proposals, but it is also proactive, initiating projects
and programs and writing the proposals to seek funding for them.
The Office of Foundation, Corporate and Government Relations currently
is pursuing funding for a variety of projects and programs at Incarnate
Word, including renovation and expansion of the Science Hall, Communication
Arts technology and scholarships, and several international initiatives
in Asia and Central and South America.

Director: Diane M. Echavarria
The Planned Giving Office helps donors make a gift to UIW both now and
in the future through various giving options that can bring immediate
and deferred tax advantages to the donor and his heirs while also having
a meaningful impact on UIW. Typical planned gifts include will
bequests (more information), charitable gift annuities, and life income
gifts. The
Planned Giving Office has a wide variety of brochures on planned giving
topics and can assist the donor and advisors in determining the appropriateness
of a gift.
Those individuals who make a planned gift to UIW become members of the
prestigious Verbum Society. “Verbum” is
Latin for “Word,” and symbolic of the University’s
continuing mission of providing a quality education within the context
of faith. The Verbum Society is instrumental
in providing educational opportunities for UIW students, faculty, and
the local community.
