Graduate Readmission

Returning to the Nest

Students who have not been actively enrolled in university courses and wish to return to the same program must complete a readmission application for review. Previous admission to a graduate program does not guarantee readmission.

Students who are inactive and want to return to the same program at the university must submit a readmission application. A student is considered inactive due to the following reasons:

  • Student has not been enrolled for more than one semester.
  • Student withdrew from the university.
  • Student was academically dismissed.
  • Student was on an approved leave of absence.

Students who are readmitted should expect to meet the published degree requirements in place at the point of their re-entry. Courses older than seven years at the time of re-matriculation cannot be used toward the degree, except with prior written approval from the program director and the Director of Graduate Studies at the time of re-admission.

If you are interested in re-entering the university through a different program, you must submit a graduate application for the new program.

Re-admission Guide

Eligibility for readmission of any former student depends on the student’s academic status at the end of the last UIW semester of enrollment and performance on any subsequent college or university work attempted.

Application Guide

No application fee

A complete application requires the following:

  • Personal Statement of no more than 500 words addressing your plan to succeed if you are provided another opportunity to continue in the program.
  • Official transcripts of courses completed at other institutions since the last time of enrollment at UIW.

Apply for Readmission

Students who have been academically dismissed are not allowed to re-enroll at the university for the length of one full 16-week semester or two consecutive 8-week semesters. Exceptions to this policy are granted only in special circumstances through your program’s appeal process. If you wish to appeal, contact your academic advisor or the program director.

To re-enter the program after the waiting period of one 16-week semester or two consecutive 8-week semesters, you must submit the readmission application, in which you should be prepared to provide evidence that you are likely to be successful in an academic program if re-admitted.

Note: Students academically dismissed by the Dreeben School of Education must wait one academic year before submitting for readmission.
