A future in teaching awaits. The Dreeben School of Education offers an opportunity to earn an undergraduate degree and Texas Teacher Certification. Through our rigorous program, teacher education students are prepared to enter the profession, to meet the varied needs of the diverse learners in their classrooms, and to support the greater educational community.
Students pursuing a future in elementary teaching earn a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education (B.A.) with a reading minor and an optional special education minor.
Students selecting secondary-level teaching or all-level teaching will major in their chosen discipline and minor in education.

Bachelor of Arts in Education - Elementary (Early Childhood through Grade 6)
The Education-Elementary degree offers an undergraduate degree with preparation for early childhood through grade 6 teaching and Texas Teacher Certification. A teacher candidate following this course of study will complete the UIW core, the Education-Elementary major, a minor in literacy, special education coursework, and the professional development course sequence.
Bachelor of Arts in Education-Secondary (Grade 7 - Grade 12)
Teacher candidates interested in secondary teaching certification (grades 7-12) complete dual majors in their intended teaching field and the Education-Secondary major. The course of study includes the UIW core, coursework in a content major (among specialized teaching fields) and the Education major. Secondary teacher candidates are also eligible to complete optional minors in Special Education and/or Literacy. Secondary teaching fields include:
- English Language Arts
- History
- Life Science (Biology)
- Physical Science (Physics or Chemistry)
- Mathematics
Bachelor of Arts in Education-All-Level Grades (Early Childhood - Grade 12)
Teacher candidates interested in all-level teaching certification (early childhood through 12) complete dual majors in their intended teaching field and the Education-All Level major. This course of study includes the UIW core, coursework in a content major (among specialized teaching fields) and the Education major. All-level teacher candidates are also eligible to complete the optional minors in special education and/or literacy. Music Early Childhood-Grade 12 certification is available with a B.M. in Music Education and an Education minor. All-level teaching fields include:
- Art
- Music
- Spanish
- Theatre
- Physical Education (Kinesiology)
