B.A. in Elementary Education (Early Childhood - Grade 6)
Prepare for a career as an elementary school teacher (Early Childhood - Grade 6) by earning a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Texas Teacher Certification through the Teacher Education Program.
Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) offers an undergraduate degree concurrent with preparation for early childhood through 6th grade and Texas Teacher Certification. A student following this course of study will complete the UIW core, the Interdisciplinary Studies major, a minor in reading, special education coursework and the professional development course sequence.
B.A. in Education - Secondary (Grades 7-12)
Pursue a specialization in a teaching field for students. Secondary level (grades 7 through 12) and all-level (early childhood through grade 12) teacher candidates develop content and pedagogy competency. Students major in their intended teaching field and complete a minor in education.
Students can now earn a Bachelor of Arts with dual majors as they develop their content and pedagogical knowledge for a Texas teaching certification in secondary grades (7-12). The Education-Secondary Major prepares students for certification in the following teaching fields: English Language Arts and Reading, History, Life Science/Biology, Mathematics, and Physical Science/Chemistry.
Students earn a Bachelor of Arts with dual majors as they develop their content and pedagogical knowledge for Texas teaching certification in all level grades (early childhood-twelfth grade). The Education-All Level Major prepares students for certification in the following teaching fields: Art, Spanish, and Theatre Arts.
Students with a discipline major yielding a different degree (such as a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Music) may complete certification requirements with the Education Minor.
Teacher Education Program
The Teacher Education Program offers a pathway to teaching certification. Upon successful completion of all program requirements, applicable certification examinations and state requirements, candidates will be eligible to apply for Texas Teacher Certification. Teaching certification options are available to students based on their course of study.
