During this time of year, the UIW campus looks notably bare due to the absence of its students as they enjoy their much-deserved summer break, but this hasn’t stopped the University from welcoming the newest additions to the Incarnate Word family.
The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) and the UIW College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) is proud to announce that the UIW Pastoral Institute has been recognized with a national award from the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States (ACHTUS).
On Wednesday, June 19, UIW hosted its 4th annual Juneteenth celebration, recognizing the historical significance of how on June 19, 1865, the official word of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas at the end of the American Civil War. For over 150 years, Black communities throughout the nation have considered Juneteenth to be their “second Independence Day”.
UIW is proud to announce that Eric W. Booth has been named the new Dean of Campus Life. The Office of Campus Life strives to develop students through an engaging university experience that aids in the formation of self, community and their contributions as enlightened citizens of a global society. The responsibility of maintaining and advancing forward a campus environment that affords students the opportunity to enrich themselves is no easy task and UIW has great confidence in Eric Booth to uphold this responsibility.
The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is proud to announce that it has been named to the 2024 Transfer Honor Roll by the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society. UIW was one of just 228 colleges and universities recognized for its work in creating dynamic pathways to support community college transfer students.

UIW was well represented by Dr. Michael Romero, director of the Pastoral Institute and Sr. Eilish Ryan, CCVI and former longtime director of the Pastoral Institute at an award ceremony held by ACHTUS on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in Boston.
On Monday, June 10, UIW’s School of Osteopathic Medicine (UIWSOM) hosted its annual Health Professions Day Camp. UIW’s Health Professions Day Camp allows students to experience being part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team as they engage in analyzing medical case studies, clinical simulations, healthcare career exploration and health professions program admission advising.
Dr. Amanda L. Roberts is honored to serve as the UIW Alumni Association Board President starting in 2024. She is currently the Academic Program Director for the Engineering and Mathematics Department at St. Philip’s College in San Antonio, TX. She was previously a Research Scientist PhD for the DoD Defense Health Agency who supports Military Medicine for the Armed Forces at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
Each person that is a part of UIW’s on-going story, both past and present, has impacted the University in various ways. Some have enlightened young minds, provided spiritual guidance and have helped the campus welcome all who seek to be a part of the Mission. Mendell D. Morgan Jr.’s influence was most felt where many students go in search of a quiet place to study and expand their knowledge – the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Library.
Students and faculty members from UIW’s Department of Communication Arts attended the 2024 Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) conference in San Marcos, Texas during the Spring 2024 semester. TIPA is the oldest and one of the largest state collegiate press associations in the nation that seeks to improve college journalism to raise the standard of college publications and to bring the colleges and editors into close and more vital relationship.
