16th Annual Pinning Ceremony
Join the UIW tradition of welcoming first-time students to the UIW family through a symbolic ceremony where lapel pins, bearing the University seal, are given to all incoming students. This ceremony marks the start of your collegiate journey with the pin reflecting the same seal that will decorate your class ring during commencement.

New Student Charge
New Students, I invite you to reflect on your lives with me for a moment, and if you feel so moved, answer the questions with “I will.”
New Freshman and new transfer students – you take a new step in your life today. You have come to take your place among us. Will you open yourself to the newness around you, allowing yourself to respond to new ideas, new experiences, and new friends?
I will.
New students of the 2020-2021 school year – as you embrace your new life at the University of the Incarnate Word, will you be faithful to the values you and your families hold dear, growing in spirit as well as body and mind? And will you commit yourselves to share with this academic community your insights, your questions, and your dreams?
I will.
Will you truly take your rightful place among us as responsible young adults, giving yourselves to your academic disciplines and the challenges that will make your growth to full maturity possible?
I will.
And lastly, are you open to listen for the living Word, the Incarnate Word, as it is revealed in your lives, in your family’s life, and in our shared life together?
I will.
