Review Admission Requirements for the MBA Program

Admission to the Master of Business Administration program at the H-E-B School of Business and Administration is determined on a three-tiered system. Please carefully review the admission requirements for each tier to determine your admission status

Common Professional Components (CPCs)

All candidates for the MBA program must obtain the following three components in order to gain admission. Please contact MBA Director Dr. Alberto Rubio (rubiosan@uiwtx.edu) with questions on how to complete these components.

  • ACCT 2301 Accounting for Non-Business Majors, or ACCT I and II
  • BMGT 3370 Business Statistics, or any inferential statistics course
  • ECON 2302 Microeconomics

General Requirements for MBA Admissions

All applicants to the MBA program must meet the following general requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Official transcripts
  • Advisor evaluation
  • Common Professional Components (CPCs) listed above

Determining Your Admission Tier

Please review the additional requirements below for each admission tier to determine your admission status.

Tier I – Full Admission to the MBA Program

Students with a Tier I admission status meet all of the general requirements listed above, in addition to the following:

  • GPA: 3.0 or higher
  • GMAT: Not Required

Applicants with a Tier I admission status will have no additional academic requirements to begin the program.

Tier II – Alternate Admission to the MBA program

Students with a Tier II admission status meet all of the general requirements listed above, in addition to the following:

  • GPA: 2.99 – 2.5
  • GMAT: Not Required

Applicants with a Tier II admission status will be assigned specific courses to be taken at the beginning of the program, all of which must be completed with a grade of “B” or better. These courses are:

  • Business Research and Analysis
  • Accounting
  • Economics
  • Finance

Any single course with a grade of “C” may be retaken once. Upon completion of these courses, the student will be granted Tier I admission status with no additional requirements.

Tier III – Probationary Admission to the MBA Program

Students with a Tier III admission status meet all of the general requirements listed above, in addition to the following:

  • GPA: 2.0 – 2.49
  • GMAT: score of 450 or higher is required
  • Writing sample

Applicants with a Tier III admission status will be assigned specific courses to be taken at the beginning of the program, all of which must be completed with a grade of “B” or better. These courses are:

  • Business Research and Analysis
  • Accounting
  • Economics
  • Finance

Any single course with a grade of “C” may be retaken once. Upon completion of these courses, the student will be granted Tier I admission status with no additional requirements.
