Students and faculty are engaged in numerous outreach programs to the underserved of the city. The service initiative below are examples of the UIW community committing to the mission of the University of the Incarnate Word.
Each spring, UIW faculty organize painting initiatives through local community centers.
A student run philanthropy, hosted sponsored through University Mission and Ministry, is a unique and exciting tradition dedicated to raising awareness and funds to serve the families of the Children's Hospital of San Antonio.
Provides opportunities for faculty and students to meet and work with some of the newcomers to San Antonio, enjoy their culture, and support them in their efforts to be productive members of U.S. society.
The UIW Community Garden offers the university a local, fresh, and vibrant array of seasonal vegetables for all to enjoy in its tending and yield. Students and faculty can volunteer to help out with the garden during garden work days.
UIW volunteers help Ella Austin Development Staff with their youth garden, used to teach children how to grow and harvest their own vegetables.
The students go out into the neighborhoods collecting canned goods for a variety of agencies needing food for the hungry.
Organized teams of students go with faculty to sites such as SAMM Ministries, The Food Bank, Travis Park Methodist Church which has a program for the homeless, Salvation Army, and Visitation House for homeless and abused women and children.
