Next Steps for Admitted International Students

1) Schedule a Counselor Appointment

Discuss how UIW can become your new home and the process to receive the Form I-20. Schedule a consultation today.

2) Pay your SEVIS fee and Schedule Visa Appointment

Once you receive the Form I-20/DS-2019 from our International Student and Scholarship Services Office, pay your SEVIS fee then schedule your visa appointment as early as possible to assure plenty of time to process your visa application.  Additional information on the visa process will be sent via email with your Form I-20/DS-2019.

3) Submit Proof of the Meningitis Vaccine

The State of Texas requires any student under the age of 22 years of age to submit proof of the meningitis vaccine up to 10 days prior to the start of classes. Vaccine records must be emailed to registrar@uiwtx.edu. Be sure to include your full name, date of birth and student ID number in the email. Students will not be allowed to move in to their dorm until this requirement is met.

4) Apply for On-Campus Housing

Living on-campus is optional for degree seeking students and required for Exchange students. Once you receive your UIW Welcome email with login credentials, log in to Cardinal Apps then click on the StarRez icon to start the housing application process. A $225 housing deposit is required prior to completing the housing application.

5) Review Pre-Arrival and Orientation Details

Visit the Arrival at UIW resources page for details on your acceptance packet, Form I-20/DS-2019, arrival dates and orientation information.

6) Mathematics Placement Course (Freshman Only)

Since the University of the Incarnate Word is test optional, to be correctly placed in college level math, students not meeting the minimum requirements must take the UIW Mathematics Placement through ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (PPL) to be placed in remedial math course (no credit).

Students who meet the following criteria do not need to take the ALEKS:

  • 550 SAT Math minimum or 22 ACT Math minimum

  • "C" or higher in dual credit Math course

Students can complete the UIW Mathematics Placement through ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (PPL).

7) Graduate Students Only

Contact your graduate advisor listed in your acceptance letter prior to arrival to request an advising appointment and register for classes.

8) Submit Final Official Academic Documents

Admitted students must submit final official transcript(s) and proof of graduation (when applicable) prior to the start of the enrolled semester. Official test scores such as SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, IB and AP exam results are also required to be sent to UIW via the testing agency. Your school may email the documents directly to intladmis@uiwtx.edu or mail to International Admissions, 4301 Broadway CPO 307, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
