Our guests today are very proud student veterans Philip Rangel, Omar Ozuna and Christopher Marmolejo. They represent the the UIW Military and Veteran Center and the Student Veterans of America.

This is a continuing episode with Dr. Arturo Chavez on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and the future program developments integrated into the University.

Dr. Arturo Chavez is the associate vice president for Mission & Ministry and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at UIW. Chávez has an illustrious career in the fields of social services, social justice and higher education. In 2009, Chávez’s efforts were recognized by President Obama when he was appointed to the White House Council on Faith-based Partnerships. He worked with 24 leaders representing every major faith tradition to strengthen ways that the U.S. Government can partner with nonprofits and faith communities to address poverty, racism, threats to the environment, access to healthcare and other issues of common concern. In 2010, the Catholic Charities USA recognized Chávez with the MLK “Keep the Dream Alive Award” for his efforts to combat racism. His passion for his work unmeasurable.

Rev. Dr. Trevor Alexander is the Instructor/Protestant Chaplain at UIW. Alexander is an educated scholar, decorated veteran and the Bishop to the True Vine Church. His latest research has been on African American families.

Dr. Lopita Nath is the chair of the History Department and the coordinator of the Asian Studies Program at the UIW. Her latest class "Global Refugees" is her focus with extensive research.
