A Special Message to First-Generation Students and Families from UIW President Thomas M. Evans, PhD

Welcome to the University of the Incarnate Word! At UIW, you will find a tight-knit community of faith and education unlike any other. We are all united in our Mission to provide education that transforms and prepares our students to live successful lives of purpose.

First-generation Cardinals are in good company as many of our students, faculty and staff are also the first in their families to attend college. Ensuring that our students have a wonderful experience and have the support they need to thrive academically are top priorities. There are many resources in place across UIW designed to help with tutoring and writing, faith formation, and much more. The University Advising Center is a great place to start reaching out and finding those tools and opportunities that benefit students best.

I also encourage all of our Cardinals to get to know their peers, faculty and student support staff and take an active role in campus life. Parents are also invited to join me and Mrs. Evans in the UIW Parents’ Association, where they can be part of an involved community of families. We want both the student and the parent UIW experience to be positive, transformative and fulfilling. I look forward to getting to know you better along your journeys with us.
