UIW Hosts 2024 Business Startup Challenge

On Wednesday, Nov. 20, the UIW H-E-B School of Business and Administration (HEBSBA) hosted its annual Startup Challenge. Since 2009, this 13-week competition has been held every fall semester, allowing students to develop a business model from idea to actualization. The competition is organized by Dr. Jose Moreno and Dr. Teresa Harrison, co-directors of the Beckendorf Family Center for Innovation and Global Entrepreneurship and is open to UIW students from all campuses and schools.

UIW MHA Student Team Takes First Place in the Trinity University Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition

Each year, second-year students in UIW’s H-E-B School of Business and Administration (HEBSBA) Master of Health Administration (MHA) program participate in PRISm (Problems Require Innovative Solutions) Pitch Competition as part of their UIW MHA leadership and marketing courses. The Healthcare PRISm is a virtual pitch competition in which teams of health administration graduate students from across the country identify and validate a specific problem of their choice, then develop and pitch their concept for an innovative solution to panels of judges.

UIW Set to offer Free Tax Preparation Program

San Antonio – February 1, 2024 – The H-E-B School of Business and Administration (HEBSBA) at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is pleased to, once again, offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program or VITA. The program provides free tax preparation services from IRS certified volunteers to households with incomes of $64,000 or less and helps working families take full advantage of all of the tax credits that they are eligible for. That includes the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and education credits.

The four-week competition challenged teams to develop an advertising campaign for a client in the pharmaceutical industry.

Dr. Michael McGuire spent 31 years as a professor of economics at the University of the Incarnate Word. He and his wife, Patience, also a retired educator, have established the Dr. Mike McGuire Scholarship Endowment for Mission-Inspired Business Leadership. The $300,000 endowment will allow for a $10,000 scholarship to be awarded to one business student every year. Recipients of this scholarship must not only show accomplishment in the classroom, but a true understanding of the Mission of UIW.
