Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

student marchingDiversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) has a primary goal to create, implement and assess learning opportunities that foster a deep respect for human diversity and strengthen our personal and institutional commitment to equity and inclusion.

The DEI office was established within the Mission and Ministry department at the beginning of 2021. However, UIW’s historical dedication to social justice and human dignity is in our DNA as a ministry of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, whose charism is “…to make the love of God a real and tangible presence in the world today.” The DEI office works collaboratively with students, faculty and staff to actualize this charism through our Mission in higher education, rooted in faith and guided by Catholic Social Justice Teaching.

Every semester we offer presentations and workshops on DEI matters, events that highlight and celebrate our cultural and religious diversity and opportunities to become civically engaged to promote social justice. Let’s all work together to build a community of belonging and empowerment here at The University of the Incarnate Word. To participate in upcoming opportunities please visit UIW Events page for a full list of our upcoming events.
