UIW’s “Light the Way” brings Christmas to the Community!
SAN ANTONIO – The crisp, clear skies provided the perfect backdrop for fireworks and twinkling lights, as the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) officially kicked off the holiday season with the 29th annual Light the Way sponsored by H-E-B.
The event held Saturday, Nov. 21 brought more than 7,200 guests to the Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium where San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor, along with Chairman of the UIW Board of Trustees Charlie Lutz, flipped the switch and illuminated the campus in nearly a million vibrant lights. The event was the finale to a fun-filled evening highlighted by a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus who entered the stadium accompanied by angels from UIW’s Brainpower elementary schools.
Special guests for the evening included Sr. Teresa Stanley, CCVI, with the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and Lacey Kotzur with H-E-B. The audience enjoyed performances by UIW’s Chorale and Marching Cardinals, the UIW and IWHS dance team and choirs from Incarnate Word High School and St. Anthony Catholic School. The St. Anthony Catholic High School Jazz Band entertained the crowd along with headliner Tejano Music Legend and three-time UIW graduate Patsy Torres.
Mariachi Las Coronelas entertained the crowd at a complimentary reception hosted by H-E-B and Sodexo. The campus will be open for self-guided tours through January 6, 2016.
