UIW partners with Carroll College to Empower Nursing Leaders

May 3, 2019

San Antonio – The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is extending its esteemed Master of Science in Nursing Leadership program to Montana nurses through a collaborative partnership with Carroll College in Helena, Montana.

The program is designed for working nurses who desire career advancement and a high-quality graduate education. By utilizing a hybrid modality of classes meeting via Zoom on alternate weeks and online coursework supported by UIW faculty, students will complete the 31-credit degree plan in 24 months, including 312 clinical hours.

“This program offers a strong fit between our two institutions because it leverages the fact that both Carroll College and UIW are Roman Catholic institutions of higher education, which provide rich, faith-based, learning environments focused on a similar mission,” said Dr. Thomas M. Evans, president of the University of the Incarnate Word. Evans served as president of Carroll College prior to joining UIW and connected the two institutions for this collaboration that furthers the healthcare ministry of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and empowers the next generation of healthcare leaders and innovators.

“With Carroll College planning to expand our graduate education outreach in both nursing and allied health in the future, this special collaboration between Carroll College and UIW is an exciting first step in offering distance learning graduate-level education opportunities to Montana’s nurses,” said Dr. John Cech, president of Carroll College.

This cohort also offers the opportunity for students to benefit from an even more diverse program by bringing together nurses from Montana and Texas – two states on opposite U.S. borders – to share their wealth of professional experiences and insights.

“The MSN in Nursing Leadership prepares nurses for roles in executive and advanced healthcare leadership. It provides nurses with administrative and management theory and skills to address organizational issues within complex healthcare systems and community-based

agencies,” said Dr. Holly Cassells, professor and chair of the Graduate Nursing Program at UIW’s Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions.

The Master of Science in Nursing Leadership program will begin at Carroll College on August 27, 2018.
