UIW Summer Program Introduces High School Students to Investment Strategy
San Antonio – The H-E-B School of Business and Administration (HEBSBA) at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is excited to host the Jefferson Bank Investor Challenge (JBIC) during the summer of 2018. This is the fourth year UIW has hosted the program.
The Jefferson Bank Investor Challenge offers high school students entering their senior year an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of investment strategy and try their hand at portfolio management for a shot at winning $500.
Students attend a week of classroom instruction with experienced HEBSBA faculty to cover the basics of stock symbols, the various exchanges as well as risk and diversification. After the week of classroom instruction, the students are each given a simulated online portfolio that mirrors the U.S. stock market. Students will then research companies, and buy and sell stocks in a competition, to see who can increase their starting portfolio the most.
The challenge will last approximately 20 weeks (ending December 2018) so the students can experience the natural ups and downs associated with the stock market. The winner of the challenge will receive $500 and have their name engraved on a plaque prominently displayed in UIW’s Financial Resource Center.
