UIW Partners with HSIs to Host Virtual Career Fair
The University of the Incarnate Word has partnered with 13 other schools to host the Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) Virtual Career Fair on Thursday, Feb. 24. The one-day event, which the organizations have planned in an effort to address the nationwide labor shortage, will run from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The 14 participating institutions have also united to form the HSI Career Collaborative Consortium. Its mission is to promote social mobility and economic prosperity in underserved communities by recruiting, retaining and graduating students while creating career growth opportunities for students and alumni.
“We are proud to be a partner of the Hispanic-Serving Institutions Career Collaborative and join forces with top companies across the country on their recruiting efforts, opening doors to incredible opportunities for our students and alumni,” says Jessica Wilson, UIW director of Career Services. “Attention to social mobility is critical today, especially as we approach a movement in higher education where the focus is not only on knowledge but on skill development and the application of those skills in the workplace.”
The HSI Virtual Career Fair seeks to match students and alumni from participating HSIs with over 150 companies from around the country. The event will provide attendees with the opportunity to connect with employers through workshops, one-on-one meetings and group sessions.
The HSI Virtual Career Fair will provide participants a chance to network with company representatives and learn about career opportunities at Accenture Federal Services, Autodesk, Amazon, Qualtrics, National Security Agency, Toyota, Union Pacific Railroad, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Walmart Corporate, WarnerMedia, Wells Fargo, Yahoo and more. All employers are hiring for full-time, part-time and internship positions.
The HSI Virtual Career Fair will also be attended and supported by AbbVie, CrowdStrike, Inc., Allogene Therapeutics, Meta, Pepsico, Southwest Airlines and Synopses Inc.
Students and alumni seeking to participate must visit Handshake to register and to secure a spot in a one-on-one or group session with employers that meet their career goals. Space to meet with each potential employer is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
The virtual, one-day event is a joint effort led by 14 HSIs in the country: California State University-Bakersfield; California State University-Dominguez Hills; California State University-Fresno; California State University-San Bernardino; California State University-Stanislaus; Florida International University; Texas A&M International University; Texas A&M University-San Antonio; The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley; The University of Texas at San Antonio; University of California-Merced; University of Illinois at Chicago; University of the Incarnate Word; and Lehman College.
