UIW Fashion Management Hosts Red Dress Fashion Show
The University of the Incarnate Word's Fashion Management program partnered with Rolling Oaks Mall to raise awareness of women’s heart health with the annual Red Dress Fashion Show on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022.
“The Fashion Management Program is proud of the wonderful garments created by UIW fashion students,” said Dr. Melinda Adams, professor and program director of Fashion Management. “They did a great job of bringing their skills and creativity to the runway.”
UIW Fashion Management students, along with aspiring designers at the high school level, created 31 garments that were showcased at the event. Twelve high school students participated in the show, with some traveling from as far away as Corpus Christi.
“It was great to have so many high school students participate in Red Dress this year, especially since most of them spent the last school year learning remotely,” added Adams. “They did an incredible job.”
First, second and third place honors were awarded for both UIW students and participants at the high school level. Each winner received a scholarship to UIW.

“I am so honored and excited to have won Red Dress, and that the fashion department gives us opportunities such as this one to explore the extent of our creativity,” commented Salinas. “It took a lot of time and persistence, but it was so cool to put the skills I've learned at school to work and to push myself to do what I knew I could. It was so inspiring to slowly see the idea I had in my head come to life and eventually on the runway, and to see how the competition brought out everyone's creativity.”
