UIW Research Center and Mexican Government Partner on Major Project
UIW Center for Medical Tourism Research to Lead Year-Long Initiative
San Antonio – The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is proud to announce that its Center for Medical Tourism Research (CMTR), under the guidance of CMTR Director Dr. David Vequist, will lead a year-long partnership to conduct a medical tourism training program through an agreement with the Mexican government’s Secretaría de Economia and Secretaría de Turismo.
This training program will consist of 12 monthly sessions designed to develop current and future health tourism clusters and attract more tourists from abroad to grow the Mexican health tourism industry. This project will not only result in economic benefits, but also in the expansion and modernization of the facilities and services of the Mexican health tourism sector.
“This collaboration promises to bring economic development and opportunities for multiple regions of Mexico while also increasing access to better healthcare for communities on both sides of the U.S. – Mexico border,” says Vequist.
The program will run for 12 months with one session offered each month. Each of the sessions will last approximately four hours, including time for questions and answers. Dr. Vequist will teach most of the sessions himself with occasional input from guest lecturers and experts for selected topics.
