SACHS Students Earn Almost $2 Million in Scholarships to UIW
More than Two Dozen Students Earn “On-the-Spot” Admission and Scholarships
San Antonio – November 16, 2023 - St. Anthony Catholic High School (SACHS) is proud to announce that 27 graduating seniors earned $1,975,000 in scholarships to the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) during the University’s “On-the-Spot” admission event held on October 25. The event offers students the opportunity to apply for and be admitted to UIW while also learning about the many scholarships offered to them.
Students like Grace Tellez, a senior at St. Anthony have already been taking full advantage of the unique opportunities students at SACHS are afforded. Opportunities such as the chance to take dual credit courses at UIW while attending St. Anthony.
“I decided to choose UIW because of the amazing support and opportunities they have for their students,” says Grace. “When I first took dual credit, I was scared to say the least. However, the professors, staff, resources and even the students made me feel so comfortable and welcomed. It felt like home; a place where I was surrounded by people who wanted nothing but my success.”
“The UIW On-the-Spot Admissions day at St. Anthony Catholic High School was a huge success,” says Matthew Rosas, SACHS school counselor. “The opportunity to receive an admissions letter and merit-based scholarship offers from UIW takes away much of the student anxiety of having to wait until Spring as with most other universities. Our unique partnership, which features a robust Dual Credit program, an innovative Health Professions pathway and an exclusive St. Anthony Scholarship offering, allows for a confident and seamless transition for our students from our campus into UIW.”
For students like Grace, these unique opportunities at St. Anthony mean getting a step ahead in their college studies. Grace plans on getting a bachelor’s in healthcare sciences with the Pre-Medicine track. Her participation in dual credit courses has allowed her to already accumulate over thirty college credit hours. But, just as importantly, Grace says it has allowed her to become comfortable at UIW and set her on a path to success.
“Unlike other universities, I was able to get that one-on-one with my professors,” concludes Grace. “My first experience was with English professor Elizabeth Lakin. She took the time to make sure we understood what we were learning so we could succeed in not only her class, but other upper-level classes as well. Again and again, she sat with us to help or go over our essays and provide encouragement or any assistance we may have needed. Professor Lakin, and my other professors, show what it means to truly call the nest a home.”
