UIW Hosts Annual Alumni Spurs Night Event
On Saturday, January 13 the UIW Office of Alumni Relations welcomed UIW alumni and friends to watch the San Antonio Spurs take on the Chicago Bulls at the Frost Bank Center.
This annual event often welcomes hundreds of UIW alumni, students, staff and faculty along with their loved ones as they cheer on their home NBA team. The University collaborates with the Spurs to offer the UIW community exclusive offers for discounted game tickets and fan experiences.
This year, the first 150 ticket buyers were given the opportunity to watch the teams warm up from courtside seats before the general public was allowed into the stadium.
Alumni Relations Manager and alumnus Callum Riley, helped to organize and manage this event. When reflecting on the evening’s festivities, he shared that he was proud to see the community come together through their common admiration for the Spurs and love for UIW.
“UIW Night at the Spurs is a popular event for our university community to come together each year,” he shared. “The occasion helps to cultivate local pride in San Antonio and provides alumni and friends of UIW with an experience unique to our city’s cultural landscape.”
Truly, the success of the event was most effectively reflected in the recounts of event attendees:
“I’ve supported the Spurs for as long as I can remember, but this is the first game I’ve been to in a few years. I had a great time with my family and catching up with old friends from UIW,” recounted Jesus Cortez '13.
Although the excitement of a Spurs basketball game is exhilarating within itself, the true pleasure was watching as current students, recent graduates and proud alumni came together, demonstrating just how far Cardinal – and Spurs – pride run.
