Local Artist set to Deliver Annual UIW Bernadette E. O’Connor Lecture
San Antonio – February 16, 2024 – The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is proud to announce the presentation of the annual Bernadette E. O’Connor Lecture on the Catholic Intellectual Tradition (CIT). The 2024 speaker is local artist William Rerick who will speak about how Catholicism influences his art in a presentation titles, “Father Mike’s Lust: Catholicism’s Emphasis on Sensuality, and Caution.”
Founded in 2017, this presenttation of the O’Connor Lecture will take place at 4:30 p.m., Monday, February 19, 2024, in the Seddon Recital Hall on the UIW Broadway Campus. The lecture is sponsored by the UIW College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) and is free and open to the public.
O’Connor is a former Dean of CHASS and Professor Emerita of Philosophy who is deeply knowledgeable about the Catholic Intellectual Tradition and who was known throughout her career as someone who was adept at helping students and faculty alike appreciate the resources that the CIT has to offer us today. O’Connor will attend the lecture on Monday afternoon.
“The CIT includes all forms of intellectual endeavor undertaken in the context of the Catholic faith,” says UIW Philosophy Professor, Dr. Christopher Edelman. “So that means that it includes not only theological and philosophical works, but also art and music and poetry. We’ve never had an artist deliver the O’Connor lecture before, so we’re particularly excited to welcome this year’s speaker, Mr. William Rerick, to share with us his artwork and his reflections on its relation to the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.”
