Connecting the University: Alumni Gather in Houston and Dallas
The UIW Office of Alumni Relations was ecstatic to connect with the University’s alumni family in the Houston and Dallas areas at its recent Alumni and Friends Gathering events. Last year’s event in Houston was such a resounding success that the team couldn’t wait to return. Inspired by the overwhelming positive response, they decided to expand their reach by adding an additional gathering this year in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Alumni and friends from all parts of the metro areas gathered to hear about the great things happening back at the Nest.
This year's Alumni and Friends Gathering in Houston took place Thursday, May 16 at Grotto Ristorante. The team was joined by Dr. Thomas Evans, UIW president, Rick Kimbrough, vice president of External Affairs and UIW baseball coach, Ryan Shotzberger, who each shared remarks and chatted one-on-one with those in attendance. Although severe weather prohibited some from joining the festivities, dozens of alumni were able to attend and reconnect with their UIW Houston family.
The Alumni and Friends Gathering in Dallas took place Saturday, May 18 at Brasão Brazilian Steakhouse in Las Colinas Village. This time, Evans and Kimbrough were joined by head cross country and track and field coach, Dr. Derek Riedel, and communication arts associate professor, Dr. Trey Guinn. They each shared brief remarks on their respective areas and expressed to all 80 event attendees how important and special it was that they came out to stay connected with the University.
“Being that this is the first time we had an event in the DFW area, this was a huge success, and we are excited to plan more events in the future in both Dallas and Houston,” shared Clarissa Gauna, alumni relations manager for chapters, programs and reunions.
