UIW Welcomes Dr. Amanda L. Roberts as the New Alumni Board President
UIW Office of Alumni Relations.
Dr. Amanda L. Roberts is honored to serve as the UIW Alumni Association Board president starting in 2024. She is currently the academic program director for the Engineering and Mathematics Department at St. Philip’s College in San Antonio, TX. She was previously a research scientist PhD for the DoD Defense Health Agency who supports military medicine for the armed forces at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Roberts graduated from UIW earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology in 2010.
After graduating, Dr. Roberts maintained UIW's Mission to be committed to educational excellence with Jesus Christ as the center of her life while earning her master’s in Chemistry from the University of Arizona in 2013 and PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth in 2020.
As a passionate community leader who values life-long learning, she became an adjunct instructor of Chemistry at UIW in 2014 and a visiting assistant professor of Chemistry at UIW in 2022. Dr. Roberts' commitment to teach the next generation of young STEM leaders was demonstrated with her work as the co-Principal Investigator for UIW's Girls in Engineering Mathematics and Science (GEMS) program.
As the co-principal investigator of GEMS, Dr. Roberts helped diversify the student population of GEMS, secured $43,000 in program funding through Texas Workforce Commission Code Camp, $11,000 of Department of Defense Alamo-AFCEA research funding, and trained K-12 grade girls coding and programming. She demonstrated a profound commitment to strengthening effective communications between UIW and government and industry sectors by contributing to building productive internal/external working relationships. These new relationships led to a proposal development process that resulted in a $50,000 grant award from the DoD Alamo AFCEA Computer Information Systems Security Scholarship for UIW students over the next three consecutive years.
Dr. Roberts continues to teach, inspire and maintain connections with UIW alumni. Her goal as president is to continue to support UIW scholars, UIW athletes and the San Antonio community through the wonderful work of the UIW Alumni Association.
As board president, Dr. Roberts will continue to focus on maintaining and fostering lifelong relationships among alumni and the University. She looks forward to continued engagement with UIW administration, faculty, students, parents and staff to continue expanding the networking and professional development opportunities for all alumni.
Dr. Roberts is a proud Cardinal and is honored to serve as the next president of the UIW Alumni Association Board.
