Roseann M. Sikora and her husband of 60 years, retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Timothy S. Sikora have led lives of adventure and service. They traveled and lived all around the world due to her husband's service, first as a U.S. Navy family and later in the Air Force. Both chose careers in nursing.
A scholar, author and dedicated servant-leader, Sister Margaret Patrice Slattery served as the President of the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW), then called Incarnate Word College, from 1972 to 1985. During her tenure, Sister Margaret Patrice contributed to the University's growth and development in ways that forever changed the trajectory of UIW.
When you think about being a leader, being "on top," being where the buck stops," what goes through your mind? What if I told you that being a true leader is not about having power over others, benefiting personally (financially or otherwise), or getting recognition? What if I told you that true leadership is about self-sacrifice and selfless service to all, even those who are difficult and disagreeable? Would you still do it?
In 1869, three Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word demonstrated how their love of God motivated them to serve those less fortunate when they traveled to San Antonio to minister to the sick and poor. Their selfless act and subsequent years of compassionate work still inspire the University to uphold service as one of the five core values of the institution’s Mission, ensuring the curriculum promotes global perspectives and community service.
The first national title for UIW Athletics was clinched by the incredibly dedicated women of the Artistic Swimming team. The USA Artistic Swimming Collegiate Championship was held in Lewisville, Texas from March 22-23.
It is with deep sadness that the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) shares the news of the passing of former UIW President Sr. Margaret Patrice Slattery, CCVI. Sr. Margaret Patrice passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024. She was a member of the founding congregation of the University, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and she served as president of UIW from 1972 to 1985.

This summer, the UIW Feik School of Pharmacy (FSOP) was approved for a $60,000 extension for a grant previously received from the CVS Health Foundation.
UIW engineering students from the University’s Autonomous Vehicles Systems (AVS) Research and Education Laboratories traveled to Toronto in Ontario, Canada to participate in Quanser’s 2024 American Control Conference Self-Driving Car Student Competition, held July 12-14.
Centro Universitario Incarnate Word (CIW), one of UIW’s two Mexico campuses, is pleased to welcome Dr. Maria Fabiola Iturbide Ruiz as its new Rector. She officially assumed the position in an Investiture Ceremony held June 26 during the campus’s graduation.
San Antonio – July 15, 2024 – The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is proud to announce that it is one of just five institutions internationally who have been awarded a grant by EBSCO Information Services. The grant funds will be used to install rooftop solar panels on the library at the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine located at Brooks on San Antonio’s southeast side.
This month, UIW faculty and students from the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions (SNHP) and the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) attended the International Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Dance and Sport (IAHPEDS) World Congress in Tokyo, Japan. This year marks UIW’s first ever participation in the IAHPEDS World Congress, held July 5 - 8.
In May 2023, UIW students and faculty members traveled on an inaugural mission to Guatemala to help aid indigenous communities by collaborating with Little Angels of Mary, a nonprofit organization operated by UIW alumni Edwin Mendoza Hipp and Darlene Jasso Mendoza.
UIW’s track and field team recently demonstrated an impressive level of dedication, athleticism and strength as they took first-place in the Southland Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships for the third consecutive season.
