Volunteers “Light the Way” to UIW’s Signature Holiday Festival
Every year, UIW hosts the Light the Way Holiday Festival, welcoming thousands of attendees to usher in the holiday season by witnessing the University’s Broadway campus turn into a winter wonderland with “a million twinkling lights.”
On Monday, Sept. 9 and Tuesday, Sept. 10, UIW students, alumni, faculty and friends gathered in the Student Engagement Center Ballroom to participate in Light the Way volunteer days. This annual volunteer event gives the campus community an opportunity to help prepare the strands of Christmas lights that illuminate the Broadway campus in an array of twinkling colors each holiday season.
“Our Light the Way volunteers worked diligently on each strand of lights, some coming back for multiple shifts,” commented Denise Aguilar, special events manager. “They helped to replace lights that were broken or damaged before the strands went on to be tested to ensure each bulb was shining and ready for our amazing electricians to put in our campus trees."
Nearly 400 people registered to help during both days. In just those two days, the volunteers completed preparing every strand of lights needed for the Christmas season.
Join us when the lights are turned on at UIW’s 38th annual Light the Way Holiday Festival on Saturday, Nov. 23!
