Unified In Wellness Hosts Café Tours in Collaboration with Sodexo
Reflection by Dr. Erlinda Lopez-Rodriguez, Community Health Education Program Director
As part of our “Fueling and Hydration” initiative, the University’s “Unified In Wellness” team partnered with Sodexo to host engaging Café Tours for students, faculty and staff. The tours, held on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and Monday, Oct. 21, provided 30 participants with practical tips for navigating the campus dining hall and creating balanced, nutritious meals.
Led by performance dietitian Mandy Tyler, the sessions emphasized the importance of healthy eating for both physical wellness and mental clarity. "Healthy eating fuels both the body and mind, enhancing focus, energy, and productivity for success in school and beyond," said Tyler.
By promoting good nutrition, participants learned how fueling their bodies can positively impact their performance in both academics and the workplace. Tyler shared her expertise, blending her educational background with a passion for sports and fitness to deliver valuable insights on the role of nutrition in overall health.
During the interactive session, participants had the opportunity to apply their newfound knowledge, creating balanced meals from the options available at the UIW dining hall. The Café Tours are part of Unified In Wellness’s broader effort to support student success through nutrition and wellness education. The initiative also collaborates with The Landing, a new student campus lounge, offering convenient grab-and-go items like milk, yogurt and cheese in partnership with Sodexo and the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability.
Unified In Wellness remains committed to promoting balanced meals and proper hydration as essential components for academic and personal success.
