Cardinals Enjoy Annual President’s Posada
In anticipation of the fast-approaching Christmas season, the UIW community gathered for the President’s Posada, a beloved annual event hosted by UIW President Dr. Thomas Evans and his wife, Mrs. Lisa Evans. The event, which is led by the Campus Life team, brings the campus community together every year to celebrate the season with warmth, gratitude, and fellowship, and has become an important tradition, for students and employees alike.
Drawing inspiration from the traditional Mexican holiday celebration of the Posada, the event honors the story of Mary and Joseph seeking shelter before the birth of Christ. Paying homage to their journey, students entered the Student Engagement Center and traveled to different stations to receive their meal. Over the years, the event has grown in significance, becoming a cornerstone of the University’s holiday traditions.
One of the most beloved and signature components of the President’s Posada is always a highlight for students: faculty and administrators don aprons and serving gloves to serve dinner for the Cardinal students. This year, faculty and staff offered a delicious Mexican feast, engaging with students in a relaxed and festive setting, which helped strengthen the bonds that make UIW feel like home. President Evans was joined by other campus leaders, faculty and staff, including Dr. Dimitri Tamalis, interim provost, all of whom welcomed students with open arms.
UIW’s mascot, Red the Cardinal, even made a special appearance to wish students a Happy Thanksgiving. Feeling a bit peck-ish himself, Red happily joined the students and enjoyed some of the tasty treats.
“The President’s Posada is our annual gift to our Cardinals,” said Dr. Evans. “Lisa and I are always happy to show our gratitude to our students for their hard work, their innovation, their unbeatable spirit and for all that they bring to UIW. This special event is a celebration of our community, without whom the President’s Posada would not be possible. Lisa and I share our thanks with our faculty and staff who volunteered their time to staff the event and to the Campus Life team for their great coordination.”
Happy Thanksgiving and praised be the Incarnate Word!
