UIW Celebrates Halloween with Brainpower Connection Trick-or-Treaters

November 1, 2024

On Halloween morning, students from UIW’s Brainpower Connection elementary schools (Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, St. Anthony Catholic School and St. Mary Magdalen Dual Language Catholic School) for its annual Brainpower Connection Trick-or-Treating event.

The Brainpower Connection is a circle of support, influence, and collegiality established in connection with six local Catholic schools, their faculties and students, to share their brainpower. A shared vision, shared faculties, and shared facilities help break down the walls that traditionally separate elementary schools, high schools and universities, providing a pathway to a college education at UIW for San Antonio’s Catholic school students.

Every year, many of these young students, dressed in their vibrant and spooky Halloween costumes, visit campus to receive candy from members of UIW’s various offices and departments. UIW administrators and staff also participate in the seasonal fun by dressing up in their own coordinated costumes. Even Red the Cardinal sported a Jack-O-Lantern costume as he greeted students, waving and high-fiving the little princesses, zombies and superheroes who came to say “hello.”

The visiting students excitedly paraded through the UIW Broadway campus eagerly holding their trick-or-treat bags up to University employees, politely asking for a sweet treat to add to their Halloween candy stash. By the end of the morning, each student left with bags heavy with candy, bright smiles and precious Halloween memories.

This annual event, which the UIW community eagerly awaits each year, not only celebrates the fun of Halloween but also reinforces the connections between the University and its partner schools. Until next year, Brainpower Connection students!
