Weather Notice: January 15, 2024
Attention Cardinal Community,
Based on the forecast issued by the National Weather Service, the University will operate during regular business hours beginning Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Classes will begin as scheduled. Students and employees are asked to exercise caution and use their best judgment based on conditions in their area prior to venturing out on roadways.
The following updates have been made to the forecast in the UIW area:
- A Wind Chill Warning/Advisory is in effect as winds will increase tonight and widespread wind chills of -10 to 10 degrees are expected across the region.
- A Hard Freeze Warning remains in effect for most areas as early morning low temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday will dip down into the teens for most of South-Central Texas.
- Even though the winter precipitation has ended there may be some slick spots remaining on less traveled roads and roads/areas that received higher ice accumulations. Drive with care and slow down.
Note: Bitterly cold wind chill values and risk for hypothermia and frostbite for those not taking proper precautions continue through Wednesday morning.
Continue to protect exposed pipes that could burst from a hard freeze, and ensure proper shelter and protection is provided for people, pets, and vulnerable vegetation. Avoid spending time outdoors. If you must go outdoors, dress warmly with multiple layers, and cover the extremities with gloves, warm footwear and a hat.
