UIW graduates holding celebratory signs

Dear students, faculty and staff,

This weekend, we celebrated more than 1,000 new graduates of the University of the Incarnate Word. We came together on Friday at two Baccalaureate Masses to thank God for the successful completion of their journeys and to pray for journeys yet to come. Saturday saw the Freeman Coliseum filled with our graduates’ friends and families for two Commencement ceremonies.

It is a joy to see hundreds of Cardinals in their regalia, flanked by rows of faculty in theirs, as they achieve their dreams of earning degrees. Hearing the applause from the thousands in attendance never fails to remind me that our graduates’ dreams are shared by many, many others. I am so proud and grateful that those dreams are realized at UIW.

Many thanks are due to everyone across the university who worked to make our Masses and Commencement ceremonies unforgettable for our graduates and their families. I would also like to share my gratitude to the faculty who educated and readied our students throughout their time at UIW and to all who provided student support services for making our Cardinals’ experiences all that they were.

To our graduates, now alumni of UIW, thank you for choosing our university and for keeping the Mission in your hearts as you go on to be the Word in the world. To our current Cardinals, thank you for allowing us to continue accompanying you on this journey of growth and discovery.

There is so much that lies ahead for everyone in our community. Whether you are back in the classroom continuing your studies, teaching, supporting our Cardinals, off to research or professional experiences, or taking a very well-deserved moment of rest, I wish you all a wonderful summer.

Praised be the Incarnate Word!

Sincerely,

Thomas M. Evans, PhD
