Alumni: Welcome to the 2024-2025 Year!

August 6, 2024

UIW President EvansWelcome, dear alumni, to the first newsletter of the 2024-2025 academic year!  The new year will soon be in full swing across all of our campuses, and just like you once did, students are embarking on new journeys, forming friendships and taking advantage of new opportunities across UIW.

We, too, at UIW are moving forward toward our goals for an exciting and successful year ahead. Here are just a few endeavors I would like to bring your attention:

  • In September, we celebrate one of our beloved traditions, the Mass of the Holy Spirit, in which we invoke the aide of the Holy Spirit as we begin the academic year.
  • I hope you have made plans to come back to campus in late October for Homecoming 2024. There are so many special events that await, and I look forward to seeing you take part. Event information and registration processes are in the works, so please continue to check for announcements from the Office of Alumni Relations and visit their events page.
  • Save the date for Saturday, November 23 for our beloved “Light the Way” holiday tradition. Join us as we illuminate 1 million lights on our Broadway campus and prepare to usher in the Christmas season.
  • Progress continues toward our new Strategic Plan that will elevate us even further as we near our 150th anniversary in 2031. Led by John Bury, vice president for Strategy & Enrollment, the process has engaged members of our community at every level and around the world and listened to their insights on advancing UIW. I plan to share more detailed updates with you beginning early in the Spring 2025

There is so much to look forward to and, as always, I invite you to be a part of the exciting things happening at UIW. Stay in touch with our Alumni & Friends Association and our Office of Alumni Relations team, who will keep you updated on all things UIW. We always look forward to hearing from you.

On a more personal note, Lisa and I have officially made the transition from being proud parents of a UIW student to being the proud parents of a UIW alumnus. With our eldest son, Walter, having now crossed the stage, I find I have an even greater appreciation for our alumni, for your affection for your alma mater and for the way that you make our Mission come to life in new ways.

I like to say that our alumni are the “Word in the World.” Thank you for being a part of our community and for representing us proudly wherever you may be around the globe.

 Praised be the Incarnate Word!
