NWS Cooperative Observer Network (COOP)
UIW Weather Station
The National Weather Service (NWS) Cooperative Observer Program (COOP) is a network of daily weather observations taken by more than 8,500 volunteers across the country. The Meteorology Program at UIW participates in this program by collecting data for the NWS that serves as a backup data collection site for the San Antonio airport weather station.
Located at the Headwaters Sanctuary and Hiking Trails, faculty and students make daily and monthly observations, recording data to NWS servers, as well as using data for assignments, projects and research. Getting involved in this program is a great way to kickstart your career development and build your resume! For more information, or to get involved with our program, contact your faculty advisor.
